The coral, from which this sculpture was carved, was found on the beaches of the Ryukyu Islands of Japan in the South China Sea. Typhoon Lala tore the coral from its deep sea bed and deposited it on the sandy shore. My family and I gathered it from the beach after the storm had passed.
