The coral, from which I carved this sculpture, was gathered from the beaches of the Ryukyu Islands of Japan in the South China Sea. Typhoon Iona tore the coral from ite deep sea bed and deposited it on the sandy shore. My family and I gathered the coral after the storm had passed.
