This sculpture is Dawn's favorite piece. She loved horses...we had Quarter Horses for 20 some years and she rode them, petted them, brushed them, painted them in acrylic, oils and rode them ... even 'run barrels' on them!!!! This piece has several meanings in the name...she sculpted it about 6th in order of her sculpting career. She sure did 'show promise' in her sculpting career and EVERYONE knew it...even her! It turns on the base (oh, by the way, the sculpted horseshoe showing at the very bottom of the piece was my (her Husband Tom's) idea! You should have seen her take a big block of styrofoam and chop it to pieces and come up with the form she wanted...what a mess that was! When the piece has been moulded and poured it was being put together for the first time...she had the welders spot weld it to see how close she was to having it be totally balanced...unbelievable, it balanced the first time and every time since!!! Just like she was some kind of engineer! We were at one Art show in Minnesota one time back in the 1990's, had our backs turned and heard a 'whir' of some type...turned around to see some little boy who was 'spinning' this bronze so fast that it scared the dickens out of all of us standing around...but it didn't fall over!!! I'll never forget that! Only 2 remain in the numbered edition and you can have yours custom patinaed (colored)...see Dawn's website for additional patinas! Oh, I almost forgot the 'meanings' to this name...first of all, the colt shows future promise, Dawn shows promise in her sculpting, and the mare shows promise in her offspring. This sculpture is the ONLY creation of Dawn's that is partially 'stylized' in that the head study of the colt connects into the mare's head study in a most unusual way.
