Lakewood police detectives are asking for assistance in locating a large bronze crucifix that was stolen from the Hospice of St. John on Tuesday of this week. The hospice is located at 1320 Everett Ct. in Lakewood.

On January 12, 2010 between 8:00am and 11:00am someone entered the Chapel at the Hospice of St. John and stole the sculpture from the wall at the head of the Chapel. The wooden cross is approximately 3 ½ feet tall and 2 feet wide. The bronze sculpture of Jesus is approximately 2 ½ tall and weighs approximately 75 pounds. It was commissioned and purchased by the Hospice of St. John in 2007.

The value of the sculpture is believed to be between $10,000 and $12,000. The artist is Lynn Kircher and the sculpture is entitled "Transcendent Christ".

It is unknown whether the thief was interested in the metal value or the art value. For additional information on the sculpture contact Steven Cooper. Cooper is the President and CEO of the Hospice of St. John and can be reached at 303-232-7900.

Detectives are asking anyone who feels they have information that may assist them in their investigation to call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
