KENT NEWS: The giant sculpture of a white horse set to dominate the Kentish landscape has cleared its first major hurdle.
Designed by Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger, the 50ft model that will cost £2 million to build won a competition last January to find a new "angel of the south" to overlook the Ebbsfleet Valley development.
One year on and a planning application has finally been submitted to Gravesham council for consideration. Stephen Jordan, chairman of the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project (ELP), said: "This is an important step on the journey for this ambitious project and we are all pleased to have made so much progress over the last few months. "Mark Wallinger has been working closely with us and his input has been invaluable. His concept is a technically challenging one but the response from the ELP team and founding patrons has been excellent." Gravesham council leader Cllr Mike Snelling added: "While I cannot pre-judge the results of a planning application to our independent regulatory board, this is an exciting project which has the potential to put Ebbsfleet on the map." |
