EDD HAYES

Bronze Monument to Firefighters for Houston Fire Museum

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Fire Museum has announced that Texas sculptor, Edd Hayes has been commissioned to create a life-size bronze monument and tribute to firefighters which will be installed at the new museum to be built in the heart of Midtown on Main Street.

Dedicated to the heroic, unyielding men and women who serve their communities across the world, this sculpture will be unveiled on the corner of Main and Hadley Streets as part of the new Fire Museum of Houston to be built by 2005.

Hayes recently finished the small clay study or "maquette" which will now be enlarged and re-sculpted to life-size. When finished and installed, the bronze monument will stand approximately fourteen feet tall. In his design, Hayes has captured the action, mystery, drama and raw emotion of a modern day Firefighter waging war against his foe. Over a two week period about fourteen different firefighters suited up with all their equipment and modeled for this sculpture. One Firefighter, a Captain, after completing his time modeling for the sculpture, said to Hayes, "We all know you will do us proud".

The piece is titled, "In the Line of Fire" and a limited edition of the small versions of the sculpture are now available through the Houston Fire Museum of from Edd Hayes Studio or www.eddhayes.com.
