Exhibition: The Kymin, Monmouth |
During July, August and September 2010, The Kymin will host an open air sculpture exhibition at one of its popular picnic sites, much favoured since the 1700s.
We are looking for national and international artists and crafts people to enter into this prestigious event. We will offer entrants the opportunity for their work to be positioned within The Kymins 20 acres of land, which will be open daily to the public throughout the period. Once visited by Nelson and Lady Hamilton, The Kymin became a popular picnic site that made the most of its spectacular views across ten surrounding counties. It also led to the building of the 'Round House', which was used as a place to picnic when the weather was bad. A Naval Temple was built later on to celebrate the glories of the British Navy. The theme of this competition, The Art of the Picnic, centres around the importance that The Kymin held for the local gentry in the 18th century and the part it played in the route of Gilpins Grand Tour. This exhibition is being launched to rekindle the connection that people have with The Kymin as a place for recreation, this time not just for the gentry. The contemporary sculptures will be available for all to enjoy in this enchanting woodland setting. To enter submissions To enter please forward:Artists are responsible for delivering, fixing on site and collecting their own work and any costs incurred.
