Eight sculptures that will be on display in downtown Wichita for the next 12 months were unveiled Friday as the city's Arts Council launched its second Sculpture WalkAbout Project.

In addition to the new sculptures, the Arts Council said four pieces of artwork from the first project will remain on display for another year.

About 100 people attended the ceremony at the Intrust Bank Arena, where three of the sculptures are now on display.

The other nine sculptures are on display in the 100 and 200 blocks of North Mead and North Mosley in Old Town.

Throughout the summer, people will be asked to cast ballots for their favorite sculpture. The winning artist will receive a $1,000 award in November.

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer told the group that he looked forward to seeing the project expand in coming years.

"We're making a noticeable difference in our city," he said. "Let's keep up the good work."

The pieces on display will be available for sale to the public at the end of the 12-month display period.
