Valerie Grossman Ceramic Sculpture |
The Sculpture Center is proud to announce that Valerie Grossman is the first winner of The Sculpture Center Award for Outstanding Sculpture at the Cleveland Institute of Art's annual Student Independent Exhibition (SIE 65).Third year ceramics student Valerie Grossman's awards do not end here - her Flower Dress with Diamonds was selected for The Cleveland Institute of Art Board of Directors Top Award and Purchase Prize Award, also a first time award for the school. Grossman describes her Dress with Diamonds as "femininity with a touch of toughness and loads of glitz and glam." In the form of a flouncy 1950s party dress, complete with corsage and sparkled with diamonds, this object is all non-glam with its materials of chicken wire and ceramic shapes. The artist feels that "the uncomfortable weight and hardness of the materials push how far one might go for fashion." SIE 65 is on view at the Reinberger Galleries of the Cleveland Institute of Art through Saturday, March 26. |
Congratulations to Valerie Grossman on her well deserved award! As always, The Sculpture Center on top of their game... providing so much to their members and students. |
