Theodoros Papagiannis Sculpture |
Chicago Sun Times Your eyes aren't deceiving you. Those are runners along the embankment on the south side of I-190 at O'Hare Internatonal Airport. But don't worry, they won't try to cross the highway. These figures comprise a 16-foot sculpture that was dedicated on Tuesday. The sculpture, known as "The Runners," was designed by Dr. Theodoros Papagiannis, a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. The piece depicts five runners emerging from antiquity into the modern world, according to a release from the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Installation of the sculpture began in March 2011, the release said. It was donated by the Athens Committee of Chicago Sisters Cities International. |
