The Wit Gallery featuring Sculpture by Michael Alfano and Babette Bloch

New Sculptures in Lenox Village

The Lenox Alliance for Arts & Humanities, in collaboration with The Wit Gallery and Lenox Gallery of Fine Art present "Engaging Sculpture" now through Columbus Day.

"Engaging Sculpture" hopes to add an artful and fun touch to the newly renovated downtown streets, sidewalks and parks of Lenox Village. In keeping with the spirit of improving the Village of Lenox, a portion of sales proceeds will be donated to the library and the gazebo project.

Featured sculptors include: Michael Alfano, Babette Bloch, Jeff Kaiserman, Stanley Marcus and Leon Smith represented by The Wit Gallery and Al Goldfarb and Louis Pomeranz represented by the Lenox Gallery of Fine Art.

One sculpture worth studying is "One World United for Peace". By Michael Alfano of Hopkinton. The sculpture is located in the garden at Liberty Square on the corner of Church and Walker Streets. "One World" is a casting of Mr. Alfano's September 11th memorial, the original having been commissioned by the town of Norfolk, MA. The design features thirteen figures atop a tower, portraying their reactions to the 911 event. These figures support a globe, implying the need for worldwide unity. "I reflected the myriad of emotions people felt, to help with their healing process," explains Alfano. "The sculpture also does more than immortalize the tragedy by speaking to 'what now?" Directly across from The Wit Gallery on Church Street, is "Peace Offering" another sculpture by Alfano - a functional bench with seats comprised of oversize hands and the base formed by a dove and hawk. "Peace Offering" invites two people to sit down and discuss their differences.

The exhibition presents a wide range of moods, from Michael Alfano's reflective sculptures, to the humorous musicians of Stanley Marcus, the abstract horses of Al Goldfarb and beautiful contemporary stainless steel renditions of flowers and animals by Babette Bloch.

For a map of "Engaging Sculpture" visit The Wit Gallery at 27 Church Street, the Lenox Gallery of Fine Art at 69 Church Street, or the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center located in the Lenox Library.
