Sean Colson Bronze Casting Sculpture Workshops

PRESS RELEASE

Sean Colson, has been a sculptor since the mid 1960’s, and begin bronze casting with his father in 1974, at Colson School of Art. The first art casting sculpture foundry in Sarasota. Sean has run Shellspen Int. Inc. a sculpture supply business for artists casting bronze sculpture, to teaching bronze casting, since 1979. Sean’s experience in Bronze casting has been for the last 36 years.

Sean is teaching classes & workshops on Bronze casting, and will share his years of professional experience with students on techniques, tips, and styles of Sculpture casting. Students will work hands on, and learn how to sculpt a direct wax, attach feeding gates to the wax. Coat the wax with the Shellspen ceramic shell process, watch the bronze poured into their own sculpture. Then the castings will be devested, and the feeding gates cut off, sandblasted to remove the ceramic shell mold, leaving the students with their own bronze casting in the rough for the "basic workshop". At this point if the student would like the "extended workshop", the bronze casting will be refined and a patina finish will be put on. Leaving the student a finished bronze.

Students will be limited in size to a bronze casting weighing no more than 7 lb. / 3.2 Kilos, with most castings being about the size of your hand. The limits on the size of the bronze castings, are due to our one-man bronze foundry (which is also portable to come to your location), and when beginning sculpture casting, it is always recommended to start small, where you can easily control the results, plus learn the complete lost-wax ceramic shell process easily.

With this class / workshop students will be knowledgeable in Bronze casting (and all metal casting), and with time, education and experience the sculptor will progress from simple designs to complex works of sculpture, that they can use these learned techniques to build from. Below are some examples of castings you can make:
Sculpture, figurines, plaques, abstracts, jewelry, animal sculptures from horses, cats & dogs & more, antique auto parts reproductions, motorcycle parts and sculpture accessories, machine parts, and just about anything you can imagine from sculpture, to machine parts.

Materials & bronze costs are included. There will be an extra cost, if your casting is above 7 lb. / 3.2 Kilos.

At the completion of the workshop, the student will be given a signed Certificate of Completion from Sean Colson & Shellspen International, stating they are trained & knowledgeable in this process, which they can use for employment in foundries. We will also work with the students school to negotiate credit hours for this workshop.

WORKSHOPS:

Are you from out of town? We offer a 5 day individual workshop in Venice, Florida USA including lodging & meals for $ 1500.00 (for one person) this workshop teaches you Direct wax sculpting, and takes you through the steps of the Shellspen lost-wax, ceramic shell process of casting your sculpture up to 7 lb. / 3.2 Kilos to a rough finish "basic workshop" (feeding gates cut off & sandblasted)! Plus watch how the one-man bronze art casting set-up is done, which you can see how to build your own Metal casting set up.

If you desire for your sculpture to be refined after casting to a finer detail and patina "extended workshop", this can take 1 to 3 days or longer if your sculpture is a "High polish" at $ 300.00 extra a day. You will learn all the steps of this process.
