AWARD WINNING NEW YORK ARTIST to exhibit at Los Angeles Art Show January 19-23, 2011

IFPDA Print Fair, Show Programming & Satellite Events

WHAT: The Los Angeles Art Show (LAAS), the premier and most significant art fair in the Western United States will return to the L.A. Convention Center from January 19-23, 2011.

The LAAS features thousands of works of art from around the world and from a range of periods including Old Master works, Impressionist, Modern, and Contemporary art.

An award-winning New York artist will be among those whose work will be on display at this comprehensive art show. Robin Antar is a well known sculptor whose work includes icons of Americana, from Oreo cookies that look real enough to eat to Dr Marten boots that are hard to tell apart from the real thing.

Nine sculptures from Antar's broad array of work known as 'Realism in Stone' will be on view, including: a bag of M&M's, York Peppermint Pattie, boxing gloves of carrera marble, and six unique boots that resemble work boots.

Brooklyn-based sculptor and mom Robin Antar is a unique artist who reproduces everyday objects - from brand name shoes, clothing and candy - into meticulously carved stone. The result is a staggering and challenging trompe l'oeil for the viewer: is it a sculpture or is it the real thing?

Her works also include a Skechers' logger boot, a pair of Diesel jeans, a bag of Milano cookies, a bottle of Chateau Haut-Brion, a Heinz Ketchup bottle, an 800 lb. bag of M & M's, & much more.

They are among the many icons of American culture that comprise the unique works of NYC artist Robin Antar, one of 17 artists honored by the NYC Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities in 2009. In addition to many distinguished honors and awards, Antar was also recently named in the Best of American Sculptors.

Antar's works in progress include a bottle of Johnny Walker and Tanqueray Gin as well as a bottle of French's mustard and Hellman's mayonnaise, and a much larger-than-life sized bag of chips - a mere 6000 pounds - (brand to be determined). Her sculptures have graced the windows of Paul Stuart's flagship fashion retail store on Madison Avenue in NYC, and have been exhibited at the Blue Hill Cultural Center in Pearl River (NY), and at the National Arts Club (NYC), among many other venues. She recently appeared on HGTV's That's Clever, where she transformed a block of stone into a life-like boot.

This upcoming 2011 LA Arts Show will also feature a unique interactive exhibition and display related to the highly anticipated regional exhibition PACIFIC STANDARD TIME created by the renowned Getty Foundation to promote the positioning of Los Angeles within the context of the art history of the world. The 150,000 square foot venue which will be the home of LAAS 2011 will also include an important Guest Country Exhibition, special exhibition spaces showcasing Southern California top museums and a high profile lecture program,

I have known Robin Antar's work for many years. She is one of a kind! The sculpture is just so damn realistic and it's all stone - keep carving Robin!
