Walking tour of downtown Hastings features sculptures

HASTINGS, MICHIGAN -- Sixteen sculptures have been placed throughout downtown Hastings and visitors are invited to view them during a walking tour today.

The event from 5 to 8 p.m. also includes live music.

Five of the 16 sculptures have been given to the city for permanent display, while the other 11 are on lease for a year from the Midwest Sculpture Initiative. The exhibit will be on display through April 2011 and sculptures will be available for purchase.

The sculptures displayed were chosen by a committee of members of the Hastings Downtown Development Authority, Thornapple Arts Council, Hastings City Council, Barry County Chamber of Commerce, Hastings Planning Commission, Youth Advisory Council and local art instructors and enthusiasts.

Musicians to be positioned at exhibit sites along the walking tour route include Vintage, Tony LaJoye, Mark Ramsey, Steve Lawhorne, Pat Dewitt & Friend, the Thornapple Jazz Orchestra and Maiden Voyage.
