Robb Report by Robert Ross A Sculptor Captures the Essence of Ferrari's GTO at Pebble BeachEvery August, the Pebble Beach Concours dElegance offers automobile admirers the opportunity to see the worlds best examples of motorized sculpture. Among the featured marques to be celebrated this year is the Ferrari 250 GTO, arguably the most desirable sports car ever made. In addition to the cars themselves, the sculpture of noted artist Richard Pietruska will be exhibited along with work by other members of the Automotive Fine Arts Societyestablished in 1983 by a group of serious automotive artists working in a variety of mediain an exhibit on the 18th fairway of the Lodge at Pebble Beach, August 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pietruska has been a professor in transportation and product design for three decades at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. For these latest sculptures, he works in stainless steel, fiberglass, bronze, and painted finishes to capture the speed, power, and beauty of Ferraris iconic 60s racer, and while the large pieces are stationary, they convincingly evoke the motion and sound unique to Maranellos V-12 masterpiece. |
