Richard MacDonald Sculpture to highlight Clars' March Sale |
Oakland, CA – On the heels of Clars' very successful February Auction, which saw a Patek Philippe watch fetch $115,000+ ($35,000 over high estimate) and an exceptional offering of art realize strong prices across the board, will be their March Fine Estates Sale which will bring to the block the most extensive offering of Richard MacDonald sculptures seen on the market to date along with an impressive selection of both American and European art. The collection of seventeen sculptures by Richard MacDonald come from a former real estate developer of luxury homes. Ranging in size from 14" tall to 54" tall, pre-sale estimates range from $1,000 to $50,000 and include excellent examples of his gymnast and dancer works. MacDonald is considered by many the foremost figurative sculptor working today. His bronze sculptures show the power, grace and beauty of athletes, ballerinas, mimes and nymphs. He gained worldwide recognition in 1996 when his sculpture "Flair Across America" was installed at Centennial Park in Atlanta for the 1996 Olympic Games. To date, only fourteen of his works have ever been offered at auction with the highest result being $13,000+. With the offering of these fresh to market works, it is likely new world records will be set for this contemporary master. Furthering the bronze sculpture offerings will be a MOCA torso by Robert Graham, estimated at $3,000 to $5,000, "Nature Reveals Herself to Science" by Louis Ernest Barrias estimated at $8,000 to $12,000 and a group of pieces by Icelandic artist Nina Saemundsson including a white granite work of Hedy Lamarr which was featured in the 1939 New York World's Fair Exposition. Wow! 17 of wonderful Richard MacDonald pieces all in the same place and for sale...sounds like a good place to be on March 13-14 2010! Here is a link to the Clars Auction Gallery |
