The Ledger.comPMA Announce Winners of Florida Outdoor Sculpture CompetitionLAKELAND | The Polk Museum of Art has announced the winners of the 11th Annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition. BEST OF SHOW: Bill Wood of Fairfax, Va., "Tilt," fiberglass and polyester chrome film, 7 feet by 7 feet by 7 feet. SECOND PLACE: Duke Oursler of Pooler, Ga., "Atomic Clock," steel, 6 feet by 14 feet by 6 feet. HONORABLE MENTION: Adam Walls of Laurinburg, N.C., "Self Portrait," painted steel, 7 feet by 5 feet, 9 inches by 7 feet, 7 inches. PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD: Doug Makemson of Nicholson, Ga., "Lucy," cast iron, stainless steel and hydraulic hose, 9 feet, 6 inches by 6 feet by 12 feet. SPONSOR'S AWARD: Bruce Niemi of Kenosha, Wis., "Suzi's Garden Series," stainless steel, bronze and stone, 9 feet, 6 inches by 8 feet by 3 feet, 4 inches. People at the Central Park Stroll on Thursday voted on the People's Choice Award. The Sponsor's Award was determined by the sponsors of the event. The Best of Show, Second Place and Honorable Mention awards were determined by judge Bonnie Rychlak, an independent curator from New York City and former curator of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum. The competition is a joint project of the museum and the city of Winter Haven, and the sculptures will remain on exhibition in the Central Park area of downtown through March 2012. |
The Polk Museum of Art and the city of Winter Haven, Florida jointly put on an exhibtion for sculpture in the Central Park area of downtown annually. One thing is for sure, you will get to see and experience a goodly amount of sculpture all nicely done! Congratulations to all the sculptors this year who exhibited their work.
