June - COFFEE TALK & TOUR Tuesday June 14, 2011 | 12:30 pmCoffee Talk & Tour begins with an exhibition tour of Art in Cameroon: Sculptural Dialogues led by Marie-Thérèse Brincard, Curatorial Advisor for the African Collection, and ends with a private seating in the café complete with regional lunch fare, African coffee, and marimba music. Ms. Brincard will share fascinating revelations about many objects in this must-see exhibition. Learn how the figures above -"two of the most powerful seated figures in the history of African art" - became separated and reunited here since they were last seen together at a ground-breaking Museum of Modern Art exhibition seventy-six years ago. Masako Kunimato,a graduate from Purchase College Conservatory of Music, will play the Marimba over lunch. This percussion instrument was widely used in Africa (known as the balafon or xylophone) and in Mexico. Kunimato will play pieces from these two cultures as well as from Japan. Savor African cuisine inspired by the Cameroon Grassfields and linger over a cup of regional coffee with friends - what better way to spend an afternoon experiencing the Neu. $40 / Reservations required: 914-251-6125 or reserve online. |
