Michele Oka Doner

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The work of an artist who is internationally known for her figurative sculptures, public art projects and prints is opening at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.

The exhibition titled "Spirit and Form: Michele Oka Doner and the Natural World" begins Friday and runs through May 9. More than 20 artworks will be on display, including an installation of hundreds of soul catchers.

The exhibition coincides with the completion of her 13,000-square-foot bronze and terrazzo floor titled "Beneath the Leafy Crown" at Meijer Gardens.

Oka Doner also is known for her jewelry and functional objects. The native of Miami Beach, Fla. has degrees from the University of Michigan and lived in Michigan from 1963 to 1981. She now lives in New York City.
