OrlandParkPatchOrland Troupe Improvs for Laughs, Sculptor Says He's "In Over My Head"The Orland Park Comedy Improv Group makes its return Friday night. Palos Hills Marc-Anthony Polizzi says he's in over his head. Or maybe society as a whole is in over its head in what the Kansas City-based artist pegs "the domesticated chaos of the post-consumer world." Polizzi's compelling sculpture, "In Over My Head," remains on view through Dec. 16 in the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery at Moraine Valley Fine and Performing Arts Center. "The post consumer world in my work refers to the general void created by material culture (in) a society that finds it more acceptable to throw out a slightly worn table than to fix the wobbly leg," Polizzi said. An installation piece that fills an entire corner of the DeCaprio space, "In Over My Head" comprises many "found objects" including 55-gallon drums from the back of Polizzi's grandfather's 18-wheeler and a projector the artist picked up while working on another piece. As the viewer's eyes scroll downward, an incredible and unexpected sculpture within a sculpture appears. I won't disclose the nature of this tantalizing vision as that would eliminate the excitement of the discovery. The Fine and Performing Arts Center is on the Moraine Valley Community College Campus, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and during most performances in the center. Further information is at (708) 974-2200.? |
Colorful and well thought out, I believe! Great choice of color and venue. When you see a Marc-Anthony Polizzi sculpture, you most likely will never forget it. |
