Asia One News | www..asiaone.comKorean community donates new sculpture to Singapore Botanic GardensSINGAPORE - Visitors to the Singapore Botanic Gardens will now be able to spot a new sculpture along Heliconia Walk. Called "Dialogue from Nature", the sculpture shows the Rose of Sharon - the Korean National Flower on one side and the Vanda Miss Joaquim - the Singapore National Flower on the other. Created by Korean sculptor Lee Soo Hong, the sculpture symbolises the cultural exchange between the two countries. It was originally exhibited in the Singapore Botanic Gardens in 2009, as part of the Nature Borne Sculpture Exhibition. Subsequently, the Korean community raised $30 000 to donate this sculpture to the Gardens. "Putting the two national flowers together in an artwork is a very good symbol of our growing ties, and I am sure this long-lasting friendship and cooperation will continue to grow," said He Oh Joon, Ambassador of Republic of Korea to Singapore. "The sculpture complements the surrounding landscape and will enhance the experience of the Gardens for our visitors," said Mr Alan Tan, Deputy Director, Living Collections & Development, Singapore Botanic Gardens. "Dialogue from Nature" was installed on April 15 near Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. |
