Jonathan Prince Steel Sculptures on View |
In his Fragments series Prince suggests a form, but does not fabricate the piece fully. Rather, his partial articulation allows the mind to complete the universally recognizable shapes, placing his audience as active, rather than passive, viewers of his work. Prince often exaggerates the "fractured" edges by adding metallic foils or using stainless steel. The emphasized texture creates a dynamic tension with the highly refined sculptural surface in stone or steel. Conceptually, Prince is interested in evoking archeological artifacts, his primary motivation for fracturing the sleek sculptures' forms. He intends for his audience to feel as though they are viewing something ancient, an artifact. April 23 - March 29, 2011 |
