Bucks Local News New Hope, PA -- Figurative drawings, bronzes, wood and stone carvings by award- winning Philadelphia sculptor Jesse Harrington will be showcased at the Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art, 77 W Bridge St., New Hope, PA from Saturday, Sept. 11, through Thursday, Sept. 30. The gallery will host a "Second Saturday" Opening Reception on Sept. 11, noon to 4 p.m. when the artist will be available to greet you. Harrington earned this year's show as winner of the 2009 Sculpture Showcase Juried Show. Sculpture Showcase 2010 will open Oct. 1-30 this year. Harrington's figurative sculptures and drawings show an achievement, and proficiency in the craft and technique, as well as the artistic objectives of sculpture. A belief that the fundamental nature of art is to transcend one's craft in the search of personal truth, and in so doing, create beauty in its multifarious form, has led Harrington to a deep connection to the words of Dostoyevsky, that "Beauty will save the world." "Heightened technical skill," says Harrington, "mixed with artistic vision is a goal we should all share, no matter the field in which we find ourselves. Through this fusion we can achieve a greater more beautiful world." As an artist he believes that there is a power behind this philosophy, a power that is portrayed in his figures, a power that is sensitive yet commands the viewer's attention. It pulls the viewer towards the forms he creates, delivering them into an exhilarating and sensual landscape. Growing up in Kimberton Pennsylvania he was greatly influenced by the beauty of his surrounding landscape. He seeks to pay tribute to this influence through his work by the study and contemplation of life and nature. Harrington lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa. He is a graduate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He advanced his knowledge of the human body through cadaver studies in the anatomy labs of Hanneman University. Jesse has taught Sculpture and Carving at Allen's Lane Art Center and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He is the winner of the Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art 2009 Sculpture Showcase. His work is included in many private collections. Major commissions include a life-size marble carving of the Madonna and Child, for St. Anthony's of Padua, in Ambler, Pa. |
Jesse Harrington makes the statement "Art's foundation is craft and technique" - this is evidenced in his work. Jesse works in a variety of mediums and all are executed quite nicely. If you are near Bucks County, I think it would be most enjoyable to stop by! |
