Here's a look at one: Frederik Meijer Gardens ArtPrize hours: Wednesday through Oct. 10: 6-10 p.m. Wednesday; noon-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; noon-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; noon-6 p.m. Sunday. What you'll see: Twenty-six mostly outdoor works, from the surreal to the abstract and from the beautiful to intentionally rough. Where the artists are from: Five from Michigan, seven from Chicago. The rest span the country from Massachusetts to California. Highlights: Media range from steel and wood to limestone, ceramics and steam-bent wood. Returning: Terrence Karpowicz, from Chicago, a Top 25 finisher last year with "Pettite Passe" on the Blue Bridge. What you won't see anywhere else: Drop by for: Dale Chihuly's "A New Eden," with 15 installations of glass art. Normal admission fees apply to the rest of Meijer Gardens. Hours: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. |
