The Palm Beach Daily News The works of Elizabeth Catlett, one of the most prominent black figures in art in the 20th century, will be on exhibit Feb. 2-27 at the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden, 253 Barcelona Road, West Palm Beach. Catlett's poignant works celebrate the heroic strength and endurance of African-American and Latin American peoples. The exhibition comes to the Ann Norton from a private collection and are joined by works from Dr. Catherine Lowe and the University of Alabama - Paul Jones Collection. Catlett, an artist most known for her print work, is also a sculptor. The sculptures will serve as the primary focus during the exhibition. The Garden's Community Enrichment Program will provide education programs for students during the exhibition. Grant funds will be used to ensure the exhibition project is accessible to at-risk students from Title I schools, as well as to low- to moderate-income level communities. Hours at the garden are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Call 832-5328 or see ansg.org. |
Elizabeth Catlett is a wonderful sculptor of the human figure, as evidenced by the below image of "Pensive Figure". I have always been enthralled by her figural sculpture. |
