Christopher Stone

WEST CORNWALL, CT. - Lady Audrey's Gallery brings together British Sculptor Christopher Stone and New York City artist Liz Lambert in an exhibit of "Sophisticated Exuberance".

Liz Lambert's latest series of oil paintings "Ophelia's Flowers" is a complete departure from her sophisticated abstracts but her unique, bold, vibrant signature style is nontheless quite evident. Inspired by the imagery presented through the flowers which Ophelia gathers, Liz calls these works "scenes" - not exactly landscapes and not exactly abstracts - just pure, unadulterated, joyful appreciation of nature.

Christopher Stone, who's marble and sandstone sculptures brought a new level of classical interest to Lady Audrey's Gallery when introduced to the US market last year, has also taken a departure from his free carving of stone and created a collection of whimsical mixed media figurative sculptures entitled "Family of Man" for this show. Chris has felt the need to move along and experiment with more flexible modern materials and techniques.

These two artists, through their work, truly represent the complete definition of joie de vivre: a joy of everything, a comprehensive joy, a philosophy of life. Robert's Dictionnaire says joie is sentiment exaltant ressenti par toute la conscience, that is, involves one's whole being. We are grateful to Liz Lambert and Chris Stone for sharing their joy and their talent with us.

The opening reception for "Sophisticated Exuberance" is May 28, 2010 from 4pm to 7pm, West Cornwall, Connecticut. The show runs through August 15, 2010.

Spatial Thoughts on Sculpture by Bill West
Applause is due the ever dapper Ibiza, Spain based British sculptor Christopher Stone to break from his stone and marble carving to venture into new areas of color, material and technique. If you are anywhere near Connecticut this summer, it will be well worth a visit to this fine gallery and exhibition.
