MIAMI, FLORIDA - Champions Arch, a sculpture that was created by the Tampa-based Gerdau Ameristeel Corp., is on display on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach through Feb. 7.
The 23-foot-tall Art Deco sculpture is the centerpiece of 11 smaller sculptures that pay tribute to past Super Bowls held in South Florida, a spokeswoman said. This year's Super Bowl will be the region's 10th. The sculpture also is meant to draw attention to possible uses for recycled steel, the spokeswoman said. The South Florida Super Bowl Host Committee approached Gerdau to provide the steel and construction services in 2009. Gerdau started fabricating the sculpture in late November, and completed it Jan. 28. |
