Call to Artis: Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency

PR-USA.net

- The Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency has reissued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the design of a sculpture or artistic element for the newly constructed West Atlantic Avenue Public Plaza, located on the southwest corner of West Atlantic and SW 5th Avenues. Qualifications must be submitted to the CRA office by 2 p.m. on Friday, January 27th.

The CRA is seeking an art component that will reflect the cultural heritage of Delray's African American settlers while furthering the city's rich artistic traditions. It should also compliment the plaza's overall design elements. The CRA has allocated $25,000 toward the art component.

A six-member selection panel, consisting of two representatives each from the Public Art Advisory Board, the West Atlantic Redevelopment Coalition and the community at-large, will evaluate the responses and select three finalists, who will be invited to submit detailed proposals. The panel will make a recommendation to the CRA board, which will make the final selection.

A similar call to artists was issued in February 2010, but no final selection was made. In order to attract a more diverse pool of quality proposals, the CRA increased the project budget and revised the selection process before issuing a second call.

Qualified individual artists and artistic teams are invited to apply. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and preference will be given to artists who reside in Palm Beach County. To download a copy of the RFQ or to request more information, visit the CRA website at www.delraycra.org or contact Vince Wooten the CRA office at (561) 276-8640.
