TOMS RIVER, NJ (September 28, 2011) - Hanlon Sculpture Studio unveiled monumental-size bronze statues last week of Yogi Berra at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Montclair, NJ and the Bearcats statue for Binghamton University. The bronze likeness of Berra in a reflective pose, based on a 1950s photograph of him kneeling in the on-deck circle, is a fitting tribute to the 10-time World Series winner. "It's a great honor to have a statue," the 86-year-old Berra said after the statue was installed at the Museum bearing his name. "I like it, they did a nice job. It fits perfect in front of our Museum, close to the ground. I hope the birds leave it alone." The Bearcats statue was unveiled Saturday in front of hundreds of fans and alumni that were tailgating as part of Binghamton University's homecoming weekend. The impressive 8-foot-long bronze statue was the centerpiece of the Bearcats Statue Initiative, a fundraising plan spearheaded by Sr. Associate Director of Athletics Jason Siegel. The statue is being used to generate revenue for athletics by celebrating the first 10-years of BU's move to Division I athletic competition. "Binghamton University enjoyed working with Hanlon Sculpture Studio on our recent Bearcats Statue initiative," said Athletics Director Jim Norris. "The staff was incredibly talented, trustworthy, and professional in every sense of the word. We were extremely pleased with the product they produced for us and the statue was well received on our campus."
