Sculpture on exhibit in Brubeck Gallery

Wabash Valley College announced its newest exhibit which is now on display until Oct. 28. As part of the Wabash Valley College 50th Anniversary, the Wabash Valley Arts Council commissioned Oakland City, Indiana sculptor Robert Zasadny to create a sculpture for the Brubeck Arts Center lobby.

"Cinquenta," Spanish for fifty, was presented to the public and given to Wabash Valley College on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

In addition to the "Cinquenta" display in the theatre lobby, the Wabash Valley College Art Gallery is hosting a show of 13 other Zasadny pieces plus three photos.

The artist interprets interrelationships of geometrical shapes, voids of surfaces and the sensuous merging of fluid organic shapes with color, texture and visual balance. He uses synthetic materials with a quest for perfection of the surface finish and design details to create three-dimensional objects of beauty.

His work has recently undergone a metamorphosis, and he now uses scrap materials such as metal shavings, ground glass, sawdust, sand, coal dust, key filings, scrap wire, Styrofoam packaging and a multitude of other materials to transform them into exciting, beautiful sculpture. This process is environmentally friendly and cost effective.

Wabash Valley College is pleased to offer this exhibit to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Gallery can also be accessed through the Wabash Valley College Library.

Spatial Thoughts on Sculpture by Bill West
Bob Zasadny a sculptor who understands space and has the creative ability to fill space with a vast array of geometric shapes. I truly enjoy his large body of work!
