Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Sculpture to Celebrates the Brand's 100th Anniversary |
SpeedLux.com By Patrick Nider This year the city of Milan is paying tribute to the historic car maker, the Alfa Romeo. The car maker is celebrating centenary this year. Several events are being staged over four days commencing from 24 to 27 June. These events are taking place at the City Council, Fiera Milano Expo, the Monza Race Track and the Alfa Romeo Museum. The event is memorialized by the unveiling ceremony of a bronze sculpture donated by the Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo or 'RIAR'. The bronze sculpture is designed in collaboration between the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and Agostino Bonalumi. The famous Alfa Romeo 1900 Disco Volante (Flying Saucer) seems to have inspired the sculpture. The Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo or 'RIAR' is responsible for conglomerating more than 1500 vintage Alfa owners, and numerous fans of the brand from around the globe. The names of all those who have contributed in the creation of the bronze sculpture is written in a special plaque under the art piece by Alfa Romeo. As a token of appreciation every contributor will given a 1/43 scale model of the sculpture. |
A sculpture for all who love the automobile and it's multiple luscious incarnations over the years... I often look at at the automobile as sculpture, simply because so many of them are. |
