The altar consists of two bronze trees inter-connected representing the humanity and divinity of Christ. The trees form a circle that speaks of the infinity of God. The posture of the trees also expresses the words of St. Paul that "all of creation will bow and profess Jesus Christ as Lord" (Romans 14). The bronze rock that forms the base of the altar is a faith statement that "upon this rock I will build my church"(Matthew 16). The root system that envelopes the rock clearly denotes the tenacity of God's hold on us. The 250 pound white oak mensa is supported by an intricate "vine and branches" motif of bronze. Like the altar, the ambo is beautifully designed in bronze communicating the link between Word and Eucharist. As Moses encounters God in the burning bush, so in the base of the ambo one sees hints of flame. The sculpture rises to form the branches of a tree. "How blessed is the one who finds wisdom. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her and happy are all who hold her fast" (Proverbs 3). This unique bronze ambo speaks eloquently of the dignity of the Word of God.
