Tocahito, Rising Flower
by Bill Batic

Description:

"Tocahito, Rising Flower" is an original Image chiseled by hand out of a built up Plaster Block. The work was inspired by a St. Charles Ave. streetcar excursion in New Orleans, LA. Tocahito and her two brothers were on vacation from Japan. Tocahito could not speak English and Bill asked one of her brothers her name. I wrote her name in my sketch book. It is my workbook and is with me all the time. When getting off the streetcar, I simply asked Tocahito's brother what Tocahito meant and he told me Rising Flower. From that moment on, I couldn't get the beautiful name out of my mind and had to create.
