"Patience" is the first piece created in the "Memories of Mother" series. This series are carvings made from plaster or wood. They symbolise the perception or memory we may have of our mothers. In my many discussions to others about how they truly feel about their mother I found that the majority of people had fond memories of their mother. Even those that said they didn't get along with their mother or had volatile relationships. After everything was stripped back and they thought about the essence of their mother, their memory of her was always positive and surrounded by warmth and loving thoughts. This series is a celebration of the unconditional love of a mother. This particular piece is about the patience that a mother has for her children. The hole symbolises the space where she allows things to just pass through. The rectangular body/form is a symbol of stability and strength.
