Fodder radish crop near Rudchester
by Erison Monteiro

Description:

Unusual catch crop sown between main crops in a large field. Attractive and delicate mix of white and purple Cruciferous flowers with a much larger seed pod than oilseed rape. Also known as oil radish and tillage radish, it is a valuable cover crop in arable rotations due to its ability to break up soil compaction, reduce beet cyst nematode populations in the soil, scavenge nitrogen and increase organic matter. Large white butterflies and bumblebees seem well pleased too. - Photo Taken June 22, 2019 in Auckland
