The coral, which i used to carve this sculpture, came from the beaches of the Ryukyu Islands of Japan in the South China Sea. Typhoon Hone tore the coral from its deep sea bed and deposited it on the sandy shore. My family and I gathered the coral after the storm had passed. This coral is called Star Coral, Faviddae, and is highly prized for its star like aspects.Many types of coral often are present in each peace found on the beaches.
