I have been studying sculpture for almost 10 years now and it wasn’t until 3 years ago that I found what it is that I want to sculpt.  This is what I had been struggling with for so many years.  I wanted to sculpt something different and unique as an expression of who I am and what I love.  I studied figurative sculpture and horses, but that wasn’t enough and soon lost interest.  I continued my study of sculpture but with no success and no new ideas of what I really wanted to sculpt for the next three years.

Recently I have been getting critiques and learning about sculpture from Scott Rogers, an artist  I met at the Metal Arts Foundry where I previously worked.  Every time I saw him he would bring in three or four new pieces. Then one day I asked him, “Where do you get all of your ideas from?  I want to sculpt but I don’t know what it is I want to sculpt.” He responded, “Sculpt what you love.”  So I sat on that for a few weeks and finally realized what it is that I love.  I love Asia!  Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated with the people, the land, the food, the architecture, and its history.  The land of Asia has so much to be discovered and there is so much to life that can be learned.
I finally knew what it was that I want to sculpt.  I want to portray life through the Asian culture.  I decided to start with my most resent experience in Asia.  I lived in South Korea for two years as a missionary and then studied there for one and a half years after.  I thought about what I had seen and the experiences I had while I was there.. My inspiration started by looking at the pictures I had taken.  While doing this, I remembered the many experiences I had while traveling, and how amazed I was with the markets.  It brought back memories of ho I enjoyed and appreciated the food in the markets.  This became my focus for my art and my mind began to be flooded with ideas of what I want to create.
