David G. Argyle was born and raised in Utah, (B 1945).  He spent his youth working on a ranch, giving him a good background in cowboy life and was drawn to create and produce pieces of cowboy memorabilia.  He has practiced artistic expression all of his life, oil painting, clay modeling, woodcarving and bronzing.  He has become a master wood carver and is best known for his reproductions of historical and modern day saddles.

He studied at Brigham Young University and has taken several private lessons but is principally self taught.  He spends every spare moment doing research to get the authenticity he demands in each piece of work.

When Dave began to wood carve, he worked more than six years before showing these wonderful works of art in a show or gallery.  The reason for this is his earlier saddles took close to 1000 hours to complete.  He did not want to show his work until he had a variety of saddles and other woodcarvings.

The acceptance of his work has been very exiting.  The woodcarvings are so unique and have such intricate detail in each piece.  Dave enjoys the challenge with each carving but the saddles are a favorite.  He has won several awards and has been invited to some of the most prestigious shows in the western United States.

Dave was not sure how or if the woodcarvings could be bronzed but decided to give it a try.  His earlier saddles are carved mostly out of one block of wood, making the bronzing very difficult.  He is now carving them in sections in order to make the molds.

He was excited when he saw how the bronze takes all of the detail from the wood.  He couldn't have been more pleased.

Dave will always be involved in art, he says, "it's what I do".
