Barry Flanagan, the 30ft Acrobats are the chosen work of the month |
||
2000 We have chosen Barry Flanagan’s monumental sculpture 30ft Acrobats as our work of the month. Flanagan is well known for his depictions of hares in bronze, which can be seen in major international collections. They have also been shown in public spaces around the world including Park Avenue, New York and Grand Park, Chicago. Hares dominated Flanagan’s later practice, appearing in a variety of guises and often engaged in human activities. Full of life and vigour, the hares portrayed in
30ft Acrobats are the perfect embodiment of joyful energy and freedom; the tallest work he made, the sculpture is also a great achievement in engineering.
Other works by Barry Flanagan are available including his early Chess Set, 1974, and a number of prints. The Large Monument, 1996, is also sited in the Park. |

Without a doubt, Barry Flanagan is one of the most creative sculptors of our time. His creative way of sending a message was so easily and lightly understood! |
